MISS WORLD 2003


'Miss World 2003', the 53rd Miss World pageant, was held at Sanya, Hainan, China on December 6, 2003. There were 106 delegates who vied for the crown. Irish Rosanna Davison, daughter of popular musician Chris de Burgh, won the title, claiming Ireland's first major beauty pageant title.
This was the first major beauty pageant to be held in China.

★ 'Belarus', 'Denmark', 'Guatemala', 'Moldova', 'Nepal', 'Paraguay', and 'Sri Lanka' returned to Miss World after 3 years.

★ This is the first time that 'Yugoslavia' had changed its name to 'Serbia and Montenegro'.

★ 'Cayman Islands', 'Costa Rica', 'Iceland', 'Korea', and 'Switzerland' also returned to the pageant after a boycott following riots in Nigeria which affected the Miss World 2002 pageant.

★ 'India' and 'Venezuela' grew up in the United States, while 'Hong Kong' in Vancouver, Canada.

★ 'Canada', Nazanin Afshin-Jam, was half-Iranian.

★ 'Uruguay', Natalia Rodriguez Lassiy, appeared in one of the pitstops of The Amazing Race 5, while 'Sri Lanka', Sachini Ayendra Stanley, appeared briefly on The Amazing Race 6.
