History
In 1939 in Mittersill a military school for aerial tramway construction was founded. During World War II, a subcamp of Mauthausen concentration camp was located here.[1] In 1943 construction work for a goods aerial tramway across the mountain range started. To this aerial tramway belonged also 2 80 metres tall aerial tramway support pillars, one was mase of steel and the other was made of wood. Later may be the tallest aerial tramway support pillar ever built of wood. As a result of the war, this aerial tramway could not be completed any more.
In the 1950's both pillars were demolished.
