The 'Victoria Hockey Club' of Montreal, Quebec, Canada was an early men's hockey team organized in 1881,[1] being the second organized ice hockey club after McGill College.
They were a founding club of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC) from 1887-1898, and played later in the Canadian Amateur Hockey League from 1899-1905, the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association 1906-1908 and the Montreal City Hockey League. Prior to forming the AHAC, they are known to have played in the tournaments held as part of the Montreal Winter Carnivals of 1883 and 1884.
They played at the Victoria Skating Rink in Montreal which was located north of Dorchester Street West between Drummond and Stanley streets. This was the origin of the club name. [1] The rink is famous as the location of the first organized game of ice hockey in 1875.
