MOUNT VACA

'Mount Vaca' is a 2,819 foot (859 meter) tall mountain in Northern California, located at (38° 24' N; 122° 6' W). The mountain is one of several in the San Francisco Bay Area that are high enough to be snowed upon. Others include Mount Saint Helena in Napa County, Loma Prieta in Santa Clara County, Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County, Mount Hernon in the Santa Cruz mountains, and Mount Hamilton near San Jose, California. It is located in Napa and Solano Counties and is California's 53rd highest peak.
While the word ''vaca'' is the Spanish word for cow, and cattle ranching has played an important role in the vicinity of the peak, the peak and nearby city of Vacaville are actually named for an early Mexican landowner in the area, Juan Manuel Vaca.
