MUSTARD PLUG
'Mustard Plug', also known as The Tard Plug, is a ska punk band from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
They're known for happy-sounding third wave ska music. Their songs usually include raspy vocals, fast singing, sing-along choruses, an upstroke guitar technique, distorted guitars, power chords, walking basslines, 4/4 drumming, and catchy horn parts.
Formed in 1991, the band's original members were Dave Kirchgessner, Mike McKendrick, Colin Clive, and Anthony Vilchez. Currently the band consists of Dave (Vocals), Brandon Jenison (trumpet), Jim Hofer (trombone), Nate Cohn (drums), Colin Clive (guitar/vocals), and Rick Johnson (bass). The band has regularly toured throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and South America. They have toured with the Warped Tour twice, and participated in the Ska Against Racism Tour.
Their ''Masterpieces'' CD combines old songs with new recordings, without the use of a Digital Audio Workstation.
Mustard Plug's sixth full length album, ''In Black and White'', is slated for release September 11, 2007. It will include 13 tracks and will be released on Hopeless Records. It was recorded at the same studio as their ''Evildoers Beware''. It was produced by Bill Stevenson who has also produced albums by the Descendents and NOFX. The cover art is available at Hopeless Records website.http://www.hopelessrecords.com/news.php?topic=21677&comments=Yes
The Tard Plug stated in an interview that their band name originated by:
:a guy in the early stages of the band was making a sandwich and that crusty stuff that forms on the mustard bottle when you put it in the fridge without wiping it off first gave him an interesting idea for a name. It was up against some pretty stiff competition, but be glad that one got picked and we didn't call ourselves the "shrinky dinks" or the "wanker daddys."
