MY HEART HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN
"'My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own'" is a song written by Howard Greenfield and Jack Keller.
The original version was recorded by Connie Francis during three different sessions on July 9, 25, and 31, 1960. Several takes of this recording still exist. Take 49 (recorded July 31, 1960) was the take originally released on MGM Records Single K 12923, but due to a suggestion by Francis, Keller and Greenfield, it was replaced only two weeks later by Take 37 (recorded July 25, 1960)
It was the release of the single containing Take 37 that hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 26 in 1960.
On October 18, 1960, Francis recorded a German language version, ''Mein Herz weiß genau, was es will'' which, however, remained unreleased until 1988. With a different set of lyrics and the new title ''So, wie es damals war'', though, German cover versions were recorded and released in 1960 by Siw Malmkvist (double vocaling as The Jolly Sisters), Nana Gualdi, Gina Dobra, and Trixie Kühn. But neither of them was able to score better on the German hit parade than the original English version by Francis, which peaked at # 35.
Susan Raye scored a top ten remake of the song for the country market in 1972, Debby Boone came close to duplicating this, hitting #11 country in 1979.
