N.W.A. AND THE POSSE

'''N.W.A and the Posse''' was a Macola Records constructed compilation that was marketed as the first album by the rap music group N.W.A. It was originally released in 1987 and again in 1989 on CD with the addition of one more song (''A Bitch Iz a Bitch''). Many of the songs on the album are not by N.W.A., but rather Dr. Dre-produced songs by the group Fila Fresh Crew taken from their debut album ''Tuffest Man Alive''. That group featured N.W.A.'s writer The D.O.C. (aka Doc T) before he joined their creative team. It also includes singles originally marketed as Eazy-E solo. The cover artwork was actually from the group's previously released single, ''Panic Zone''. The album eventually sold more than 500,000 copies, reaching gold status.

Trivia

★ The song Dopeman contains a reference to ''Scarface'' at about 1:34: "To be a dopeman, boy, you must qualify - don't get high off your own supply."

★ During this album's recording, Arabian Prince and The D.O.C. (who were members of N.W.A. at the time), were recording with other groups. Due to the fact they were low on vocal support, Eazy-E brought in his old gang partner, Ron-De-Vu, to help record songs for the debut album. However, these songs (L.A. Is the place/ Fat Girl) were printed as Eazy-E's solo. For production, Dr. Dre brought in Krazy Dee to DJ for the group.

★ Ron-De-Vu (Rondell), was replaced by MC Ren in 1987, however Ren didn't join until 1988 because Arabian Prince was still an active member.

★ The "I WAS" hook from "8 Ball" is a sample. It is from the song "Go See The Doctor" By Kool Moe Dee, on the 1986 album "I'm Kool Moe Dee" The line goes " I was walking down the street/rockin' my beat/clappin' my hands and stompin' my feet..."
