NATHAN HINES
'Nathan Hines' (born 29 November 1976 in Wagga Wagga, NSW) is an Australian-born rugby player who used to play at lock for Edinburgh Gunners and Scotland, and is now playing in France at USA Perpignan. A former rugby league player from Wagga Wagga in Australia who played for North Sydney Bears XIII in Australia, Nathan turned up in Galashiels for an initial six-month visit in 1998.
After winning league and cup titles with Gala RFC, he made his Test debut for Scotland in New Zealand but two serious injuries claimed nearly 18 months of his career. He also suffered the ignominy of becoming the first Scotland player to be sent off in a Test match when he was dismissed against the USA Eagles in 2002. He was a useful part of the Scotland squad for the Rugby Union World Cup in 2003.
In the Six Nations game against Wales at Murrayfield on March 13, 2005 Nathan came on in the second half and helped restore some pride, but his try was disallowed for lack of grounding. Discontented in particular with the Scotland coaches (Matt Williams and Willie Anderson), he moved from Edinburgh to Perpignan in the off season and declared his retiral from international rugby. However, with the firing of the previous coaching regime and the installation of his previous club cloach, Frank Hadden as scotland coach, Hines has returned to playing international rugby. First making his reappearance as a substitute in the 2006 win over England at Murrayfield
