NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF LESOTHO


The 'National Assembly of Lesotho' is the lower chamber of the country's bicameral Parliament.
The current National Assembly, formed following elections held on 17 February 2007, has a total of 120 members. 80 members are elected in single member constituencies using the simple majority (or First-past-the-post) system. The remaining 40 members are elected through proportional representation and national party-lists. Members serve five-year terms.
Ntlhoi Motsamai is the current Speaker of the National Assembly.

# In the pre-independence 1965 election, the Basotho National Party was known as the Basutoland National Party and the Basotho Congress Party was known as the Basutoland Congress Party.
