NEITH NEVELSON

'Neith Nevelson', born in New York City in 1946, is known mostly for three types of artistic expression: horses, female nude bodies and male faces.

Her grandmother is the well-known Russian-born American artist Louise Nevelson, who died in 1988.
Though Neith continues to attract a great deal of interest and has achieved an underground notoriety rare for a living artist, the art-world seems to be indifferent to her art. Some in the past have interpreted her art-work timid and derivative, lacking in much originality, though her potential and talent have never been questioned. Others have not been as harsh on her art and have interpreted Neith's lack of standing in the art-world as the result of her being Louise Nevelson's granddaughter, or, to quote a 1996 Miami Herald report, someone who will always be "following on her grandmother's shadow."
Physically frail, Neith Nevelson lives in South Florida. She is fondly known among the locals as "t-shirt lady," a nickanme she received from the days when she'd peddle hand-painted t-shirts on the streets, often for $5.00 each.
