NEWPAGE CORPORATION

NewPage Corporation, headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, is a leading U.S. producer of coated papers in North America. The company produces coated papers in sheets and rolls with many finishes and weights to offer design flexibility for a wide array of end uses. With more than 4,300 employees, NewPage operates integrated pulp and paper manufacturing mills located in Escanaba, Michigan; Luke, Maryland; Rumford, Maine; and Wickliffe, Kentucky. These mills have a combined annual capacity of approximately 2.2 million tons of coated paper.
'NewPage Corporation' traces its roots to the 'West Virginia Paper Company' or 'Westvaco', established in 1888 by William Luke on 50 acres (202,000 m²) of land along the Potomac River known as "West Piedmont" (now Luke, Maryland). The mill in Luke remains a major economic factor in the area and now straddles the river into Beryl, West Virginia and Piedmont, WV.
In 2005, the Luke plant and the rest of MeadWestvaco's Printing and Writing Paper business were sold to investment firm Cerberus Capital Management for about $2.3 billion to form NewPage Corporation. NewPage as originally constituted had five pulp and paper manufacturing in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, and Ohio. In April 2006, NewPage sold their carbonless operations located in Ohio for $84 million to global specialty papermaker P. H. Glatfelter Company, based in York, Pennsylvania.
