Route description

Steuben County

The highway begins at an intersection with NY-54 at Keuka, a hamlet in the Town of Wayne, about eight miles north of Hammondsport. NY 54 runs generally west-southwest to northeast in that area. The intersection is angled such that NY-230 runs south-southwest from the intersection.
It immediately climbs Keuka Hill and loops around until it runs east-west. It turns southeast before crossing into Schuyler County.
Schuyler County

NY-230 enters Schuyler County in the Community of Wayne, north of Waneta Lake. The highway continues east for about a mile and a half before turning northeast and crossing into Yates County.
Yates County

The highway continues to run generally to the northeast until it meets its terminus at NY-14A west of Dundee.

History

NY-230 once extended east to NY 14, according to a 1930s-era road map. It followed the current NY 14A into Dundee, turning east at the village's main intersection to follow Seneca Street and the Dundee-Lakemont Road to NY 14 between Lakemont and Starkey.
