NEW YORK STATE ROUTE 270

'New York State Route 270' is a state highway in Western New York, running through rural and wooded areas of the Town of Amherst in Erie north into Niagara County.
Throughout much of its length, it is known as 'Campbell Boulevard'.

Route description

Route 270's southern terminus is just north of SUNY Buffalo's north campus, at an intersection with Millersport Highway (NY 263) with some office parks and gas stations that marks the center of Getzville. It runs due north, underneath Interstate 990 without an exit, into the still-wooded areas of what is known as North Amherst, and then crosses the Tonawanda Creek and the county line.
In Niagara County it runs past typically deforested fields and some houses, again continuing mostly straight due north, to an intersection with NY 31 and becomes Junction Road. A few miles later, it ends at a four-way intersection, known as Lockport Junction, where NY 93 comes in from the east and takes over the northbound road.

History

Today's NY 270 is the unmultiplexed remnant of what was once a route following 263, US 62 and NY 5 to downtown Buffalo. Likewise, it extended north along 93 to terminate instead at NY 104.

Miscellanea

Executed Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh grew up in a house along Campbell in the Town of Pendleton.
