Route description

The northern end is near Troutburg at the Lake Ontario State Parkway by the shore of Lake Ontario near the west end of Hamlin Beach State Park. NYSDOT maintenance actually continues north to where it dead ends at Lake Ontario. Proceeding south, the highway continues south through Morton, intersecting NY Route 360. Briefly, NY 272 continues southward with NY 18, but runs alone through Kendall Mills and arrives at its southern end ar NY 104 (Ridge Road).
Besides separating two counties, NY Route 272 marks the town line between the Towns of Kendall and Murray in Orleans County and Hamlin and Clarkson in Monroe County.
NY 272 is one of only two state highways in New York that are located wholly along a county boundary (the other one is NY 269 on the other side of Orleans County).
