NOAH NOBLE

'Noah Noble' (January 14 1794 – February 8 1844) was a Whig governor of the U.S. state of Indiana from 1831 to 1837.
He was born in Berryville, Virginia, and came to Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana, in 1811 when he was only seventeen years old. He came to Indiana to join his brother James Noble, a prominent lawyer and later United States senator.
He was commissioned a lieutenant colonel in the 7th Regiment, Indiana militia, in 1817 and a colonel in 1820. In 1820 Noble was elected sheriff of Franklin County. He was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1824. Noble was elected to the governorship in 1831 and was re-elected in 1834. Noble, who longed to succeed his brother in the Senate, was a candidate in 1836 and 1838 but was defeated in both elections ([1]).
Noah died in Indianapolis, Indiana, aged 50, and buried next to his wife, the former Catherine Stull Van Swearingen, in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana ([2]).
