NORTHWEST COLLEGE

'Northwest College' offers 2-year associates degrees, and is located in Powell, Wyoming, near Yellowstone National Park. Northwest College was founded in 1946. It was initially called the "University of Wyoming Northwest Center", but University of Wyoming support was discontinued in 1950.
Northwest College has a handful of sports teams, the Trappers, competing in men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, wrestling and rodeo. The longest-running program is the men's basketball team, which began play in 1947. Among the program's products is John Johnson (basketball), who was a first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1970 and played in the NBA until 1982. The basketball teams compete in Division I of the NJCAA.
The Music Department is one of the most recognized community college music departments in the country. Unusual in its comprehensive offerings of music ensembles for traditional age students it is also fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) .
In addition to a complete music major transfer program Northwest also hosts the Northwest Jazz Festival, Yellowstone Jazz Camp and the Yellowstone Summer Music Camp.
