Oak Forest was established in 1946 by Oak Forest Realty Corporation. Oak Forest Realty Corporation was owned by Frank Sharp, a developer who later started Sharpstown.
Oak Forest was originally an unincorporated area in Harris County. It was annexed by the city of Houston in 1949.
