OF THE OPERA
(Redirected from Of The Opera)
'Of the Opera' is Robert Bock's solo project (formerly of The Firebird Band and Monday's Hero) and is an indie electronic/acoustic/indie pop project from Chicago, Illinois.
Of the Opera is signed to Lucid Records out of Deerfield, Illinois.
Of the Opera is Robert Bock, his computer, his guitars, and other live instruments. Of the Opera is pop music starring Robert Bock who cut his teeth with Monday's Hero (2002-2005) and playing with The Firebird Band (2005-2006). In 2006, he left his position as a guitarist/keyboardist/back-up vocalist in The Firebird Band to make his project "Of the Opera" full time. He writes and plays everything on this album from his first release (except live bass on one of the songs).
★ Following the release of ''Study Natural Law'' they have played at high profile venues such as The Metro (Chicago) and the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in (Austin, Texas).
Bock has taken his time-tested angular guitar equations, coupled them with electronic beats and synthesizers and thrown in a healthy dose of dark pop sensibility. The result is reminiscent of Depeche Mode or late-era David Bowie. While the music alone would be enough to silence even the harshest of critics, Bocks secret weapon is his voice. The lush vocal arrangements on this album move seamlessly from subdued to soaring, while the lyrics are never short of haunting. Direct and demonstrative, the ten songs on '''Study Natural Law''' contain as much intricate musicianship as they do infectious melodies, a balance rarely found in todays musical offerings.
Recorded by Gordon Persha and artwork by Eric Mortensen, '''Study Natural Law''' is only the first of many surprises to expect from Of the Opera.
