The name '"Oil Capital of the World"' can refer to Houston, Texas or Tulsa, Oklahoma, which claimed the name early in the 20th Century and held it outright until the early 1990s, when Houston became the most prominent hub of the oil industry in the United States. Due to its historical or current economic importance, both cities still claim the name.
