ORANGE ISLANDS
In the Pokémon anime, the chain, also known as the ''Orange Archipelago'' is an extensive island chain consisting of various active islands. The archipelago is different climatically from Kanto, which is temperate while the archipelago is tropical. One effect of the different climate is that Pokémon found there are of a different color. While many people inhabit these islands, the most notable are the Orange Crew, the four Gym Leaders who live on four of the islands. They are Cissy, Danny, Rudy, and Luana.
It should be noted that the Orange Islands are unique because there is no video game equivalent.[1] The Orange Archipelago only exists in the anime and the ''The Electric Tale of Pikachu'' manga, so it is not considered part of the game canon.
Gym battles
Main articles: List of Orange Islands Gym Leaders
Gym battles in the Orange Archipelago differ from those on the mainland because the Orange Crew do not require challengers to actually ''fight'' them. Instead, they wish to test their loyalty to their Pokémon and vice-versa with various tests (for example, Danny has a Trainer use his/her Pokémon to freeze a geyser of hot water and then carve it into a sled for racing).
Other notable characters
There are a few other characters of note on the Orange Archipelago. Professor Felina Ivy works on Valencia Island with her three assistants Faith, Hope, and Charity. Other notable residents include Prima, none other than Lorelei, a local Pokémon Master and member of Kanto’s Elite Four (this would be later referenced in ''Pokémon FireRed'' and ''LeafGreen''’s Sevii Islands); Mateo, a glass sculptor who lives on Sunburst Island and takes his inspiration from a rare, reclusive Crystal Onix; and Melody, a young girl who lives on Shamouti Island and plays the flute in an annual ceremony there.
In '', the Kanto region legendary birds and Lugia live around this area.
Orange Island Archipelago
Most of the islands are actually named after varieties of oranges, or other citrus fruits.

Navel Island

In order to challenge the gym leader Danny, trainers must first climb up a mountain without the help of any Pokémon. Otherwise, said trainers would be expelled. The second stage of the gym battle includes freezing a geyser and carving it into the fastest possible bobsled. The last stage will include a bobsled race from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the gym. Any trainer who wins two out of three will earn him/herself the ''Sea Ruby Badge''.
It is not to be confused with Navel Rock.
Shamouti Island

Shamouti and its surrounding isles, Fire Island, Ice Island, and Lightning Island (Japanese: Arshia Island, Earthia Island and Asia Island), are connected to the balance of nature via the Legendary Pokémon Moltres, Articuno, Zapdos, and their mediator Lugia.
Ancient writings from many different cultures name the area around this region as the source of all the waters of the world and perhaps life itself.
Shamouti Island appears to be a cultural center for the Orange Archipelago because of its many island holidays. One such holiday is the annual Legend Festival. For centuries, the locals have performed a ceremony honoring the prophesized Chosen One that would tame the birds of legend should they release their might on the world. The locals dress up in traditional attire, apparently for historical purposes, but some in the younger generation attribute the preservation effort to the resulting tourism.

To beat Rudy one must first shoot targets while on a moving boat. Then they participate in a three-on-three battle in which Rudy must choose a Pokemon that are of the same type that the trainer chooses.
