ORDER OF INFANTE D. HENRIQUE

The 'Order of Infante D. Henrique' (Portuguese: '''Ordem do Infante D. Henrique''') is a Portuguese National Order of Knighthood awarded by the President of Portugal which distinguishes and recognises pre-eminent services for Portugal at home and abroad, and especially in relation to the expansion of the Portuguese culture, its history and its values. The order was created in 1960 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Infante D. Henrique, commonly known in English as Henry the Navigator.
The order includes five classes; in decreasing order of seniority, these are:

★ Grand Collar (''Grande Colar'' - GColIH)

★ Grand Cross (''Grã-Cruz'' - GCIH)

★ Grand Officer (''Grande-Oficial'' - GOIH)

★ Commander (''Comendador'' - ComIH)

★ Officer (''Oficial'' - OIH)

★ Knight / Dame (''Cavaleiro'' / ''Dama'' - CavIH / DamIH)
There are also two related medals: Silver Medal (''Medalha de Prata'' - MedPIH) and Gold Medal (''Medalha de Ouro'' - MedOIH). Like in the other Portuguese orders, the title of Honorary Member (''Membro Honorário'' - MHIH) can be awarded upon institutions and locals.
