The 'Oregon Sports Hall of Fame' honors Oregon athletes, teams, coaches, and others who have made a a significant contribution to sports in Oregon.

The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame inducted its first class of 54 members in 1980, a diverse group that included Olympians Mack Robinson, Don Schollander and Frank Troeh, Boston Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky, NFL hero Norm van Brocklin, Heisman trophy winner Terry Baker, high jump innovator Dick Fosbury, and basketball coaching legend Slats Gill.
New members are inducted each fall, in a ceremony held in recent years at the Multnomah Athletic Club.
The 2007 induction ceremony will occur on September 25 2007 and induct the following new members: 2007 Oregon Hall of Fame inductees

Lance Deal -- Track and Field (University of Oregon track coach, won silver medal in hammer throw at 1996 Summer Olympics)

Joe Etzel -- Coaching (athletic director, basketball coach, and baseball player at the University of Portland)

Ryan Grossenbacher -- Handball (oldest competitor to win a USHA National Open Title, six-time Oregon singles champion)

Robert "Pudgy" Hunt -- Masters Athlete (held state high school basketball scoring record until broken by Kevin Love in 2007; on 10 AAU masters basketball national championship teams)

Mary Ayotte-Law -- Gymnastics (Oregon State gymnast, won 1982 national championship in floor exercise, third overall)

Shannon MacMillan -- Soccer (University of Portland soccer, winner of 1995 Hermann Award, won gold medal in soccer at 1996 Summer Olympics)

Jim Shanley -- Football (halfback for University of Oregon in 1955-57, co-captain of Rose Bowl team, played professionally with the Green Bay Packers)

Dewey Sullivan -- Coaching (football coach at Dayton High School, national high school coach of the year in 2001)

Scholarships


As part of its educational mission to promote the values and rewards of participation in sports, the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame grants as many as nine $2,000 scholarships given to outstanding Oregon student athletes who will be attending Oregon colleges. Scholarship winners are honored during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Facility


The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is located in downtown Portland, Oregon and is operated by the Oregon Sports Trust. The facility houses over 7,000 square feet of space and features hands-on exhibits, videos, and memorabilia, such as Terry Baker's Heisman trophy (the first Heisman given to a West Coast athlete), Mack Robinson's Olympic jersey, one of Dale Murphy's Golden Gloves, and Bill Walton's jersey from the 1977 Portland Trail Blazers NBA championship game.
