'''Overlord''' (called '''Supremacy: Your Will Be Done''' in Europe) was a computer game designed by
David Perry &
Nick Bruty and produced by Probe Software for the
Amiga and
Commodore 64 computers in 1990. It came on two disks.
The goal of the game was to obtain control of a solar system by terraforming successive planets, while an opponent attempts to do the same. There were four skill levels, each represented by an enemy race. The skill levels also had different numbers of planets. While the genre can be considered an early example of
real-time strategy, there are some key differences, notably that you have no direct control over units. Similarities include managing of planetary economies and constructing buildings to give more options.
The main theme for Supremacy was composed by
Jeroen Tel, and is recognized as one of the best
SID tunes ever made, reaching the 52nd spot among almost 30,000 entries in the
High Voltage SID Collection [1]. Supremacy is recognized as one of the most important strategy games in the early 90's, and has together with other games made way for some of the most important computer games in history, like
Civilization and
Sim City.
