Tibet, China -- Ownership of Tibet, Part One #001
Tibet is located in southwest China. The ancestors of the Tibetan race who lived there struck up links with the Han in the Central Plains long before the Christian era. Later, over a long period of years, the numerous tribes scattered on the Tibet Plateau became unified to form the present Tibetan race. By the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the Tibetans and Hans had, through marriage between royal families and meetings leading to alliances, cemented political and kinship ties of unity and political friendship and formed close economic and cultural relations, laying a solid foundation for the ultimate founding of a unified nation. In Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the statue of the Tang Princess Wen Cheng, who married the Tubo tsampo, king of Tibet, in 641, is still enshrined and worshiped in the Potala Palace. The Tang-Tubo Alliance Monument marking the meeting for this purpose between Tang and Tubo erected in 823 still stands in the square in front of the Jokhang Monastery. The monument inscription reads in part, "The two sovereigns, uncle and nephew, having come to agreement that their territories be united as one, have signed this alliance of great peace to last for eternity! May God and humanity bear witness thereto so that it may be praised from generation to generation." In the mid-13th century, Tibet was officially incorporated into the territory of China's Yuan Dynasty. Since then, although China experienced several dynastic changes, Tibet has remained under the jurisdiction of the central government of China.

BANGLADESH VS INDIA
In 1971, India aided the people of Bangladesh (then known as East Pakistan), gain independence from Pakistan. According to the Bangladesh government, ever since that military intervention, Indian forces have occupied a small sliver of land along their border near the village of Pyrdiwah. On April 18, troops of the Bangladeshi Rifles (border troops) occupied the disputed village. In the fighting that followed, 15 members of India's border forces, the Border Security Force (BSF) were killed, along with several of the attacking soldiers. Indian forces responded and retook the village. Between 10,000 and 20,000 villagers living in the area fled the fighting, with at least 17 suffering wounds. The combat remained limited to the border troops of the respective nations, though mortars were used in addition to automatic weapons fire. Several villages were destroyed or heavily damaged in the fighting. Several of the Indian dead appeared to have suffered brutal, non-combat deaths, which were blamed on mob violence perpetuated by Bangladesh civilians. The governments of both nations worked quickly to defuse the tension and end the fighting. Since the creation of Bangladesh, the neighbors have had largely cordial relations, though the BSR and Bangladeshi Rifles have exchanged fire in the past. Those incidents centered on Muhurichar Island further to the south. Conflicting claims to ownership of this river island provoked gunfire in 1975, 1979 and 1985. The violence in 2001 was by far the most serious in the history of Indian-Bangladeshi relations.

Houari Boumediène
This is a small biopic in English about Houari Boumediene, the president of Algeria from 1965 to 1978 and one of the heroes of the Algerian revolution. 1932-1978) President of Algeria 1965-1978. Boumedienne was by all means a dictator, yet his regime was one in which the country was stable and had continuous economic growth. Under his predecessor, President Ahmed Ben Bella, Algeria had suffered from strife between factions. He focused much on industrialization of the country, also a change from Ben Balla, and his focus on the agriculture. Still, the Algeria upon his death was still a country in which a majority lived in poverty, contrasted by a wealthy elite. Algeria was brought into a state of strict governmental control, and local and provincial assemblies became weak and ruled within the limited framework of the central authorities. Algeria received large revenues from petroleum extraction, and Boumedienne was free to choose a politics of non-alliance, a mediating position between Communist east and Capitalist west, in which he maintained good relations with both. Algeria's international influence was strong his period, and Algeria became a leading nation among developing countries. He ended Algeria's special position with France, when the ownership of the oil industry was transferred from French interests to the Algerian state. BIOGRAPHY 1932 August 23: Officially, this is his birthday, in the village Beni Addi, or Clauzel, near Guelma. It has been suggested that he actually was born in 1925 or 1927. His original name was (short) Mohamed Boukharouba. — Boumedienne began his education at the Islamic Institute in Constantine. 1952: Escapes serving in the French army by moving to Cairo, Egypt, where he studies at al-Azhar University. 1955: Joins a guerilla unit in western Algeria, where he took the name Houari Boumedienne, derived from patron saints of Oran (Sidi El Houari) and Tlemcen (Sidi Boumedienne). 1957: Becomes colonel in the FLN, and becomes new revolutionary chief of Oran Province. 1960: Becomes chief of staff of the army outside Algeria, working much to raise an army in Morocco and Tunisia. 1962 June 30: Army troops under the leadership of Boumedienne and Ben Bella marches on Algiers, following that the provisional government of Algeria had sacked Boumedienne from his position. Boumedienne and Ben Bella crush their opponents. — September 28: Becomes Defense Minister. 1963 May 17: Appointed Vice President. 1965 June 19: Stages a military coup against President Ben Bella, and takes the position as president. Not having great popular support, he at first ruled through a revolutionary council of 26 members. 1967 December: Unsuccessful coup on his regime. He reacts by taking even more direct control over the politics of Algeria, and crushes most of the opposition. 1968: Becomes chairman of the Organization of African Unity. His term would last a year. 1971: Imposes state control of the oil industry, which until then had been 2/3 owned by French interests. 1974: In a UN speech, Boumedienne declares: "One day, millions of men will leave the Southern Hemisphere to go to the Northern Hemisphere. And they will not go there as friends. Because they will go there to conquer it. And they will conquer it with their sons. The wombs of our women will give us victory." 1975: Attempting to take control over part of Spanish Sahara, as the Spanish move out. Morocco, making a claim on the area, threatens with war. Algeria chooses to support Polisario, the liberation army of the locals of former Spanish Sahara (see Western Sahara), permitting them to establish headquarters in Tindouf. 1976: Issues a National Charter and a new constitution. — December 10: Is re-elected president of Algiers. 1978 November 22: With President Boumedienne gone into a coma, rule over Algeria is transferred to the Defense Ministry, by which Chadly Benjedid and Abdullah Belhouchet get effective control. — December 27: Dies in Algiers of a rare blood disease. He would be succeeded by Chadly Benjedid, though with Rabah Bitat served as transitory president for 45 days.

◘◘◘South africa: Cutting the nose to spite the face◘◘◘
In South Africa, land is presently not only one of the most defining political and development issues, but also perhaps the most intractable. The continuing racial maldistribution of land will either be resolved through a fundamental restructuring of the government's land reform programme, or it will be resolved by a fundamental restructuring of property relations by the people themselves. Which direction the country follows depends to a large degree on the urgent and immediate responsiveness of the government to the needs and demands of the country's 19-million mostly poor, black and landless rural people. In 1994, the Government of South Africa inherited one of the most racially skewed land distributions in the world — whites owned 87 percent of agricultural land, while blacks owned only 13 percent. To support fundamental change in patterns of land ownership, the World Bank developed an extremely productive partnership with the Ministry for Agriculture and Land Affairs in the early 1990s, one that ultimately has played -- and continues to play -- a constructive role in land reform, agricultural policy, and rural development. In particular, the Bank and South African partners developed a new approach to land reform, based on a system of grants that eligible beneficiaries could use to purchase land on the open market. In addition, the partnership contributed to the formulation of the government's Integrated Sustainable Rural Development Program, and several publications on agricultural land reform.
News Corp - Dow Jones - WGA - DGA - Kevin Martin - Jeff Imme
NEWS CORP officially completed its acquisition of DOW JONES yesterday after 60% of shareholders voted to close the deal. Rupert Murdoch soon showed up at the Dow Jones holiday party wearing a Santa hat. He brought some gifts, in the form of a new CEO, a new publisher and permanent vacations for several top DJ executives. The new lineup of News. Corp. veterans begins work today. THE WGA has filed a complaint against the AMPTP with the National Labor Relations Board citing unfair practices. The Guild claims that the producers violated federal law by issuing an ultimatum and then breaking off talks. Meanwhile, the Directors Guild of America said it was ready to begin talks with the AMPTP after the new year. KEVIN MARTIN will push ahead with the Dec. 18 vote on media ownership rules, despite complaints from legislators and the Senate Commerce Committee bill that seeks to block the vote. Martin told the Committee he would not delay the vote, ignoring complaints from both Democrats and Republicans. JEFFREY IMMELT addressed speculation about a possible sale of NBCU during an interview on CNBC's Squawk Box. Immelt said the company is too valuable to consider selling, despite its recent struggles. He acknowledges the rapid change hitting the industry, saying "Anyone that thinks the TV-network business is going to be the same two years from now is crazy." However, he thinks GE is in a position to capitalize on that change. We'll see. WEBKINZ is suffering a Facebook-like consumer backlash after adding movie ads to the popular children's virtual world. Traffic for the formerly ad-free site has surged by 800% this year and over 7 million unique users visited in October. Some of that growth may be in jeopardy, as the recent addition of ads for Hollywood films has angered parents and triggered complaints from The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood. Some parents are blocking children's access to the site, creating a challenge to the new ad-supported business model. * Get the story at Media30.com *
NORTH BORNEO SABAH of Philippine Islands
The Sultanate of Sulu was granted the territory as a prize for helping the Sultan of Brunei against his enemies and from then on that part of Borneo is recognized as part of the Sultan of Sulu's sovereignty. In 1878, Baron Von Overbeck, an Austrian partner representing The British North Borneo Co. and his partner British Alfred Dent, leased the territory known as "Sabah" - roughly translated as "the land beneath the winds". In return the company will provide arms to the Sultan to resist the spaniards and 5,000 Malaysian ringgits annual rental based on the Mexican dollars value at that time or its equivalent in gold. This lease have been continued until the independence and formation of the Malaysian federation in 1963 together with Singapore, Sarawak and Malaysia. Up to these days, the Malaysians have been continuing the rental payment of 5,300 Malaysian ringgits - a 300 ringgits increased from original rent. In 1962 during the Pres. Diosdado Macapagal's administration (the father of the present president, Glorio Arroyo), the Philippines formally claimed Sabah based on the Sultanate of Sulu heirs' claim on the territory. The Philippines broke diplomatic relations with Malaysia after the federation have included "Sabah". The sultan's heirs have given the Philippine government the authority to pursue the claim legally in international courts the Malaysians have been aiding the Muslim separatists against the Philippine government. Some people says this distracted the attention to the claim on Sabah as the government was embroiled in containing the conflict Muslim Filipinos have considered Sabah as part of their domain as their ancestors have been doing centuries ago. That part of southeast asia is bound by common religion, history and people. FINALLY: The claim was based on several historical facts and court judgement. The lease agreement is definitely a proof otherwise there will be no basis for any agreement if such ownership was not established at all. The contract was between Sri Paduka Maulana Al Sultan Mohammad Jamalul Alam - representing the sultanate as owner and sovereign of Sabah on one hand, and that of Gustavus Baron de Overbeck and Alfred Dent, representing the British East India Co.(then became the North Borneo Co.), on the other as lessee of Sabah, was executed on June 22, 1878. Though the British turned over the possession and government of Sabah to the federation, the Malaysians have not remissed in paying the annual rental. The 1939 court judgement on the claim had handed ownership of North Borneo to the heirs of the Sultanate prior to the formation of Malaysian federation in 1963. The judgment of Chief Justice C.F.C. Makaskie of the High Court of North Borneo in the civil suit filed by the late Dayang Dayang Hadji Piandao and eight other heirs of the Sultan of suluk dayak dunsun bahau murut kadayan are all FILIPINOS
