PAINESVILLE, OHIO

'Painesville' is a city in Lake County, Ohio, United States, along the Grand River. Its population was 17,503 as of the 2000 Census. It is the county seat of Lake County and the home of Lake Erie College and Morley Library.

Painesville is located at (41.722793, -81.249597).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.3 km² (6.7 mi²). 15.5 km² (6.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it (10.61%) is water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there were 17,503 people, 6,525 households, and 4,032 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,130.1/km² (2,928.6/mi²). There were 6,933 housing units at an average density of 447.6/km² (1,160.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 76.99% White, 12.93% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 6.50% from other races, and 2.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.89% of the population.
There were 6,525 households out of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.4% were married couples living together, 16.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% were non-families. 31.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.22.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 17.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $34,842, and the median income for a family was $41,000. Males had a median income of $31,082 versus $23,346 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,391. About 13.4% of families and 16.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.6% of those under age 18 and 10.4% of those age 65 or over.

School constructions projects


The local school district has begun the demolition of Hobart Middle School to begin building a high school at the location. Heritage Middle School is being erected on Chestnut Street.. [1]
