Queen's Guard Mounting from St. James's Palace
Visiting London in late June, I was able to watch the Queen's Guard Mounting (the "Changing of the Guard"), as some of the old guard assembled, was inspected, and marched out of St. James's Palace. I followed them toward Buckingham Palace and watched the ceremony conclude. Very cool, very traditional, very British.

Buckingham Palace Changing of the Guards WINTER
As an American, I'm exceptionally proud of these British Soldiers. NO SOLDIERS ON EARTH HAVE THE TRADITIONS OF, OR MARCH WITH AS MUCH STYLE AND CLASS AS THOSE IN THE UK. WHEN IN LONDON, MAKE IT A POINT TO WATCH THIS CEREMONY AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE. They'll make you proud regardless of what country you are from, especially if you have served in the military. No, I don't work for the UK Travel & Promotions Board... I live on a farm in Texas and I'm a former soldier of the US Army. My ancestors came to the USA from the British Isles in the mid 1800s. I'm partly a mix between Scottish, Irish and English bloodlines. I like haggis, St. Patrick's Day and Fish & Chips and am proud of both US and UK soldiers wearing or who have worn the uniform. (Well, I lied... I don't like haggis THAT MUCH, I had a beer before sampling the concoction last December in Edinburgh. It tasted like ground-up Texas rattlesnake, with seasoning. (Meanwhile, back to London.) Standing near the gates at Buckingham Palace as a casual observer, watching from a few meters away -- I was exceptionally proud of these young men as they performed with flawless precision. As a war veteran who served in Vietnam, I was delighted to witness The Changing of The Guards when my wife and I were in London celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary during the Christmas 2007 holidays. We don't have the long history and tradition like our cousin's across the pond and we pale in comparison to pomp and circumstance. When I saw several Coldstream Guards standing in front of me (not marching in the procession) as they saluted their flag, it made me proud of all military serving in countries who value freedom and democracy as we have in the USA and the UK. When the COldstream Guards saluted, it made me want to shout "Long live the Queen... hip-hip hurray... Jolly Good Show." And I thought to myself, "Darned, I proud my ancestors came from here." My camera-work on this video isn't representative of my 30 years in television. I was standing in the crowd and held my camcorder 6 feet above my head on a fully extended tripod (see my shadow at :40 second into the video.) My camera-view was from about 11 feet off the ground. While the video is shaky, my camera was able to have a better view than anyone standing near the main gate in the crowd. It was towering above everyone and waving back and forth...I NEVER INTENDED to post this on YouTube but I do want to express my gratitude to these chaps who "clocked out" at the end of their shift. It was really, REALLY wonderful to witness this.
