The Palais is located on the northern edge of Old Montreal in Montreal (). It is built over the Autoroute Ville-Marie and is connected to the city's metro via the Place-d'Armes station, as well as to the underground city.
There are five entrances to the Palais:

★ 201, avenue Viger Ouest

★ 1001, place Jean-Paul-Riopelle

★ 301, rue Saint-Antoine Ouest

★ 159, rue Saint-Antoine Ouest (administration)

★ 163, rue Saint-Antoine Ouest (truck entrance)

History

The Palais began operating in May 1983. In the 1999 an expansion was planned, and on December 6, 2002 construction was completed at a cost of $28 million .
From November 28 to December 9, 2005, it held the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
In March 2006, the CBC reported that despite the 2002 renovation, the Palais has actually been receiving fewer visitors. The Quebec government cited declining tourism rates after 11 September 2001 and SARS, the high Canadian dollar, and the increasing popularity of holding electronic conferences as reasons for this decline.
