PEDICEL (BOTANY)

A 'pedicel' is a stem that attaches single flowers to the main stem of the inflorescence. It is the branches or stalks that hold each flower in an inflorescence that contains more than one flower.
The stem or branch that holds a group of pedicels or if there is only one flower in the inflorescence is called a peduncle.
These terms are used to describe the way flowers are attached to the plant and are used to differentiate different species of plants from each other.
