PENDERRY

'Penderry' is the name of an electoral ward and a community in the City and County of Swansea, South Wales.
The electoral ward consists of some or all of the following areas: Penlan, Portmead, Blaen-y-Maes, Fforesthall and Caereithin, in the parliamentary constituency of Swansea East. The ward consists of mainly suburban residential areas. It is bordered by Mynydd-Bach to the east; Cockett and Cwmbwrla to the south; and Kingsbridge, Penllergaer and Llangyfelach to the north.

Penlan

'Penlan' is the main area in the ward and is the most well known. The suburban district is set on land high above sea level in the central part of Swansea county.
The headquarters of Swansea's main public transport bus company First Cymru is located here.
Penlan is home to Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe, a Welsh-medium secondary school.

Blaen-y-Maes

In the Portmead and Blaenymaes area, there are many services that can be accessed, such as Spark Blaenymaes for its childcare facility, adult education and after school club, the community centre for bingo, kids club, old age club and boxing, the new drop in centre for its charity clothing shop and fruit and veg co-op, and the ARC which has a public cafe, a meeting room, development staff and an IT suite that provides a range of courses from IT to Tai Chi - this centre won the Lord Mayor Community Regeneration Awards in March 2007 for the best education scheme and the Best Overall Project.
Blaenymaes has been funded by the Welsh Assembly for the last 8 years and lack of crime and anti social behaviour has really changed the place for the better - with the work of the BPP DEvelopment Trust based at the ARC and the communities first team. There are plenty of things to do these days from going to Spark, youth club, community centre, 104 community house, the new drop in centre, the ARC, penplas family centre and much much more. check out http://www.blaenymaes-trust.ik.com. Yes there was an issue with youth throwing things at buses but this doesnt happen any more!! You usually find the youth kicking a ball about at the new MUGA on Broughton Avenue.
Blaenymaes, Portmead and Penplas are in the Penderry Ward and part of Communities First.
Blaen-y-Maes consists mainly of council housing. The area gained some notoriety in the early 1990s, when bus services to the area were suspended due to bricks being thrown at them by youths.
