PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND NATURAL RESOURCES

'Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' (DCNR) This department was established on July 1, 1995. The DCNR is charged with maintaining and preserving the one hundred twenty state parks; managing the 2.1 million acres (8,500 km²) in twenty state forests; providing information on the state's ecological and geologic resources; and establishing community conservation partnerships with grants and technical assistance to benefit rivers, trails, greenways, local parks and recreation, regional heritage parks, open space and natural areas. 'EDUCATION'

The Pennsylvania DCNR is host to many different Environmental Education programs throughout the summer months. These range from topics such as "Leave No Trace" hiking/camping policy to the different wildlife and plant species of many of the state parks.
'LAW ENFORCEMENT'

DCNR Rangers, also known as the "state park police", act much like a National Park Service Ranger does. They routinely check on cabins and campsites, offer insightful answers to visitors questions, and help to maintain calmness throughout the parks.
