PENNSYLVANIA ROUTE 63


'Pennsylvania Route 63' is a 37 mile long state highway located in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. The western terminus of the route is at Pennsylvania Route 29 in Green Lane. The eastern terminus is at I-95 in Bensalem Township.

Montgomery County

PA 63 begins at a "T" intersection with PA 29 in Green Lane. PA 63 begins as Sumneytown Pike. In Upper Salford Township, PA 63 meets the southern terminus of PA 563 (Ridge Road). In Harleysville, PA 63 is called Main Street and meets PA 113 (Harleysville Pike). South east of Harleysville, PA 63 is called Sumneytown Pike again. In Towamencin Township, PA 63 intersects I-476 the Pennsylvania Turnpike at exit 31 (Lansdale). South east of I-476, PA 63 turns toward the northeast and is called Forty Foot Road. Less than a 1 mile southwest of Hatfield, PA 63 meets the western terminus of PA 463. In Lansdale, PA 63 is called Main Street and meets the northern terminus of PA 363 (Valley Forge Road). In Upper Gwynedd Township, PA 63 becomes Welsh Road and meets US 202. In Lower Gwynedd Township, PA 63 meets PA 309 (Bethlehem Pike). In Horsham Township, PA 63 meets PA 152 (Limekiln Pike). Southeast of PA 152, It passes over I-276 the Pennsylvania Turnpike. In Upper Moreland Township, PA 63 is called Moreland Road and meets PA 611 (York Road). Southeast of PA 611, PA 63 begins to curve many times and changes its name from Edge Hill Road to Old Welsh Road. In Lower Moreland Township, PA 63 is called Welsh Road again and meets PA 232 (Huntingdon Pike) and east of PA 232 its called Philmont Avenue.
Philadelphia

In Philadelphia, PA 63 is called Red Lion Road. The first route PA 63 meets in Philadelphia is PA 532 (Bustleton Avenue). East of PA 532, PA 63 merges with US 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard). The concurrency with US 1 ends at an a Cloverleaf interchange, when PA 63 becomes the freeway called Woodhaven Road.
Bucks County

As Woodhaven Road, PA 63 has 3 to 5 exits and one of them is an interchange with US 13 at this point PA 63 has entered in Bucks County. East of US 13, PA 63 ends at an interchange intersecting I-95 at exit 35.

Original plans called for the highway to be extended across the full width of Northeast Philadelphia, but local opposition brought construction to a halt.[2]
