Chicago: Navy Pier
Were on our way out of Chicago and we already miss it and everyone weve met. So heres what we did: Yesterday, was our last day at Crystal and Benjis place. That is pretty sad. I really like those two. In the morning Harry, Trun, Margaux, and I went to a cafe to get coffee and better wi-fi since our hosts borrow theirs from some unsecured network and its slow sometimes. we spent about an hour and a half there updating the website and putting up pictures and finding places to stay in our upcoming cities. We were going to go with Trun to an apartment to play some music but he never called us back. Not sure if he went or not. Then we were going to meet Synneve at Navy Pier, but some girl gave us bad directions which made us late and Synneve had to leave. The girls directions took us on an express train out to the bad part of the city. We could see the neighborhood getting worse out the windows of the metro as we cruised to our doom. The train didnt stop until we were way out there. In a rail car with about 30 people in it, we were the only two white people. Not racist at all, but everyone was looking at us like, you boys arent from here are you? An hour later we were back where we started and unharmed. So we went to Crystals place of work again. This time she gave us like 35 dollars worth of food for about 6 bucks. It wasnt a lot of food, just expensive. From there we met up with Margaux to go to Navy Pier for real this time. We took a couple busses. It was one of the bus drivers birthday and ironically a passenger dropped a cake on the floor of the bus right by the driver. Anyway, walking around the pier was fun. Lake Michigan looked sweet. The pier itself was a little too touristy for me. Very carnival like. When we got home we started packing. Margaux left before us. She was awesome. We wrote notes in a book that Crystal has all of her couch surfers write in. We hung out with them a little longer. Just talked and laughed about stuff we did. They are happy people. And we finally hung out with their other roommate Anthony who was also a cool dude. Then at around 930 we hugged them and said goodbye. We took a drive on Lake Shore Drive before leaving Chicago. Then drove up to Saras dorm where we crashed on the floor with our sleeping bags. That was super cool of her. In the morning she bought me milk at the library and Synneve bought us coffee. We packed up the car and drove to Joliet to get the remote key lock thing activated. They couldnt get it to work but I still had to pay 20 dollars. Lame. After being in Joliet for a few hours of boredom we hit the road for Crawfordsvile, IN. We were going to stay with my friend Lindsay (a.k.a. Lynny) and her boyfriend Dustin in a really nice little house in the woods. It was a really relaxing and beautiful place. We loved it immediately. It amazes me how two places that are complete opposites can both make me equally happy just being there - the constant go of Chicago and the relaxing beauty of Indiana. When we got there we cracked open some beers that Dustin had bought for us and we conversed on the back deck, which was on the edge of a steep hill in the woods. We all had a great time out there. Lynny mentioned starting a website for her clothing line Six Six Vixen but has almost no know-how of computers. I wanna use one of those... I dont know what they are called... Link? A few hours of hanging out and drinking, Lindsay made dinner while we took showers. The shower here was warm, but had been poorly designed. It was up against the slanted roof which caused you to be constantly hunched over. It was awkward but we are not picky. Her dinner was super good. And the setting for dinner was awesome as well. In a cabin like home in the woods, a thunderstorm booming outside, Rage Against the Machine blaring on the stereo, all made for an interesting dinner. We ran to Walmart afterward for supplies. I bought some electrical tape to fix my sunglasses which were broken in Chicago... I think from hopping a fence. Once we got back we made Mudslides. Dustin works as welder and makes pretty decent money at his new job. I have to constantly write to keep up with what we are doing so my writing skills/flow have to take a backseat to compensate for speed. Once this trip is done I will rewrite a lot of it. Bare with me. So he had to go to bed around midnight. Once he did, we just sat around writing/editing/working on stuff/watching Scrubs. I went to bed in a cool loft like room which had big triangle shaped windows for me to see the view when I awoke. cw
