PINELLAS COUNTY SCHOOLS

'Pinellas County Schools' is a school district serving Pinellas County, Florida and based in Largo, Florida.
It has about 148,000 students and more than 13,000 employees. Dixie M. Hollins was the county's first superintendent of schools. The current superintendent of schools is Clayton Wilcox.
Like other Florida school districts, Pinellas County Schools has had to deal with issues of desegregation, court-ordered busing, and school choice. In 2000, the district received "unitary" (desegregated) status from the court which was monitoring integration issues, and from 2003 to 2007 is operating a "controlled choice" program which sets minimum and maximum percentages of black pupils in individual schools. This is scheduled to be replaced by a "choice without ratios" plan in 2007 which would eliminate these maximum and minimum percentages. [1]
