Information

Ayumi had already released a mini-album in 1995 called Nothing from Nothing , which was her first attempt to hip-hop music. However, she didn't find success, there was no promotion the album and it sold only a thousand copies. Because of the failure of her first record, she decided to make pop music. On her first day at the recording studio , her grandmother died (it is believed by many fans now that because of her grandmother's death, she doesn't like this song). Atfer recording the song, Ayumi listened to it and wasn't satisfied of the result, she didn't like the lyrics. She re-wrote them and the first version of poker face has yet never aired. The b-side of the single, Friend, later featured in her debut album, A Song For XX.

Chart performance

Poker face entered at #20 on the charts with 11,520 units sold in its opening week and it sold
about 50,000 copies.[2]
