PORTERBROOK
:''See Porter Brook for the river in Sheffield.''
'Porterbrook' is one of the three major ROSCOs (Rolling Stock Company) in the United Kingdom. Created in 1994 as part of the privatisation of British Rail, it owns around a third of passenger railway locomotives, multiple units and coaching stock running on Network Rail's system which it leases to various train operators. In 1996 it was sold as in a management-employee buyout and subsequently owned by Stagecoach Group until 2000 when it was taken over by the Abbey National bank. Since 1996 Porterbrook has spent more than £1.5bn on new rolling stock in the UK and also leases to freight company Freightliner. It has also expanded to hire locomotives and stock on the European Continent. The UK's other two rolling stock companies are Angel Trains and HSBC Rail.
