'Porto Novo' (Portuguese for "new port") is officially the westernmost municipality in Cape Verde and all of Africa but not the mainland. It is a town and a municipality in the island of Santo Antão of Barlavento. It covers two-thirds of the island and home to one-third of the population. Geographical features includes Tope de Coroa elevating around 1,979 m.
Porto Novo are linked with roads linking to Paul and Ribeira Grande and also to Topoa de Coroa and the island's west coast and a small road to Tarrafal de Monte Trigo. The plain area which are consists of farmlands cover the area round Porto Novo, the mountains cover the northern, western and the central parts and some are in valley areas. Much of the municipality are grassy or bushy, a few forests cover the mountain area while farmlands are in the plain around Porto Novo and in valley areas.
Its main economy are businesses in Porto Novo and tourism, it is followed by agriculture which is one of the main industry.
