POWER ENGINEER

In Canada, Power Engineers work mainly around Prime Movers such as Boilers, Turbines, Steam Engines, Refrigeration Plants and many power driven devices required for moving materials and energy from one source to another. Power Engineers are often licensed as Marine Engineers, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and in some cases 5th Class Engineers.
Licensing is completed through a combination of work experience, correspondence or full time instruction, and the completion of rigorous Governmental examinations. Depending on the jurisdiction, the title may be different, and Power Engineers may be known as Stationary Engineers (particularly in non-marine applications) or Operating Engineers. To Achieve the 1st Class designation may require a minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience, study and examination, depending upon the jurisdiction.
