History

Prior to the creation of the consolidated district in 1984, the building in which the current high school is housed was known as 'Fairbury-Cropsey Junior-Senior High School', with the "Fighting Tartars" as their mascot. The consolidation in 1984 brought together the students of Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School and Chatsworth High School as the new Prairie Central. The district further expanded in 2004 with the addition of the students from the former Chenoa High School.
Upon the change of the school's name, the mascot was also changed, from the Fighting Tartars to the 'Hawks'. The colors were also changed, from a green and yellow gold scheme, to white, Columbia blue, and navy.
Competition
