PRATT & WHITNEY R-1830

(Redirected from Pratt and Whitney Twin Wasp)

Pratt & Whitney R-1830 "Twin Wasp" (sectioned)

An R-1830 used in a B-24 Liberator restoration project.

The 'Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp' was an engine widely used in American aircraft in the 1930s and 1940s. It was a two-row, 14 cylinder, air-cooled radial design. It displaced 1,830 cubic inches (30 L) and its bore and stroke measured 5.5 and 5.5 in (140 and 140 mm), respectively. An enlarged version (bore increased to 5.75") with reduced compression to operate on 80/87 fuel and yet have comparable power is known as the R-2000.
