PRESTON TRAIL
Preston Trail, also known as Old Preston Road was based on an ancient Indian trail extending from central Texas all the way to what is now known as St. Louis, Missouri. The primary portion of the trail ranged from Cedar Springs (now part of downtown Dallas) all the way to Grayson County. It became a military road that had followed the previous Shawnee Trail cattle route during the 1840s. Preston Road closely follows the original trail and as such is named after it.
Preston Trail follows the ridge that separates the East and Elm forks of the Trinity River. As a result institutions such as the Preston Ridge Campus of Collin County Community College District are named after it, and lies on the original trail/ridge.
