The '''Proposed NHS Redress (Wales) Measure 2007''' is at the moment under the stage of approval at the National Assembly for Wales. At this stage it is being scruitinised by the Assembly Members and was proposed by the new Health Minister Edwina Hart AM. It is one of the first ever Welsh laws.
The long title for the Measure is ''"A Measure of the National Assembly for Wales to make provision about arrangements for redress in relation to liability in tort in connection with services provided as part of the health service in Wales; and for connected purposes"''[1]
This Assembly Measure is to change the way NHS Patients are compensated if an operation goes wrong or a patient receives bad treatment. It creates a way to compensate the patient without the need for a court case. It also provides a complaints procedure for NHS Wales to follow by in case of a problem with a patient arising. A similar law is in force in England called the "NHS Redress Act 2006". This is considered one of the first Assembly Measures proposed to the National Assembly. Once passed it will be known as "NHS Redress (Wales) Measure 2007".
