PUDDING LANE

'Pudding Lane' is the street in London formerly containing Thomas Farriner's bakehouse where the Great Fire of London began in 1666. It is off Eastcheap in the City of London, near London Bridge. The nearest tube station is Monument, a short distance to the west. According to the chronicler John Stow, it is allegedly named after the "puddings" (medieval word for entrails and organs) which would fall from the carts coming down the Lane from the butchers in Eastcheap as they headed for the waste barges on the Thames. A plaque on the wall of the building to the right in the picture, called Faryners House, records the site of the fire.
