Geography


Rüthen is situated on the river Möhne, approx. 20 km south of Lippstadt and 35 km south-west of Paderborn. With an area of more than 118 square miles it is the largest town within the district of Soest.

History


Coat of arms

The coat of arms show the black cross of the bishops of Cologne, to which Rüthen belonged since the Middle Ages, on silver ground. In the four corners and the middle of the cross is one red diamond each. The four diamonds represent the four city gates, of which only one (the "''Hachtor''") still exists today.
