'Raley's Supermarkets' (also known as 'Raley's Family of Fine Stores') is a privately owned supermarket chain that operates 139 stores under the Raley's, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods, and Food Source banners in northern California, Nevada, and New Mexico. Founded in 1935 by Thomas P. Raley and headquartered in West Sacramento, California, it is the dominant supermarket operator in the Sacramento metropolitan area.
''Supermarket News'' ranked Raley's No. 36 in the 2007 "Top 75 North American Food Retailers" based on 2006–07 fiscal year estimated sales of $3.4 billion. Based on 2005 revenue, Raley's is the seventy-seventh largest retailer in the United States.[2]
On June 12th, 2007, Raley's announced the sale of it's New Mexico locations to Albertsons LLC. The transaction is expected to close in August 2007.
On September 1st, 2007, a federal jury awarded Raley's employee John O'Quinn $455,500 as compensation for years of racial discrimination.
