RAYMONDVILLE, TEXAS

'Raymondville' is a city in Willacy County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,733 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Willacy County.
Raymondville was formed in 1904 by Edward Burleson Raymond, a foreman of the El Sauz Ranch portion of the famous King Ranch and owner of the Las Majadas Ranch^[1].

Raymondville is located at (26.481464, -97.783013). Raymondville is know as the "Gateway to the Valley"
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.8 km² (3.8 mi²), all land.
Also, Raymondville, the home of a $65 million tent city that holds 2,000 immigrants who speak more than 40 different languages in windowless hothouses. They are locked down 23 hours a day.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 9,733 people, 2,514 households, and 2,016 families residing in the city. The population density was 988.9/km² (2,564.4/mi²). There were 2,842 housing units at an average density of 288.8/km² (748.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 69.91% White, 3.91% African American, 0.59% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 23.29% from other races, and 2.20% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 86.63% of the population.
There were 2,514 households out of which 41.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% were married couples living together, 18.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.45 and the average family size was 3.97.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 13.1% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 117.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 119.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $19,729, and the median income for a family was $23,799. Males had a median income of $20,034 versus $14,502 for females. The per capita income for the city was $8,910. About 32.7% of families and 36.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 45.0% of those under age 18 and 30.7% of those age 65 or over.

Raymondville is served by the Raymondville Independent School District.
In addition, South Texas Independent School District operates magnet schools that serve the community.

Musician Noe J. Falcon (March 25, 1942 - ) was born in Raymondville and was raised in Corpus Christi.
Emeterio Rivas III (1966- )was born and reard in Florida.A proud U.S. Army Veteran.Has appeared on the Maury Show. Originally from Florida(Palm Beach County areas).Currently a Lieutenant, supervising cadets and staff at The Amador R. Rodriguez Juvenile Boot Camp and Education Center. Resident of the Valley for the last 16 years. Has been employed with several agencies of law enforcement in the Cameron and Willacy County areas, to include San Benito, Santa Rosa, La Feria and Formerly WCC in Raymondville.
