'Red Lake' is a census-designated place (CDP) within the Lower Red Lake unorganized territory located in Beltrami County, Minnesota, USA. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,430. It is part of the Red Lake Indian Reservation.
The United States Census Bureau uses the CDP designation as a reporting mechanism to provide area and population values for a more densely settled community within the much larger, and less populated territory. Red Lake became known internationally due to the Red Lake High School massacre on March 21, 2005 in which high school student Jeff Weise killed 9 people and injured 14 others before committing suicide.
