Professional career
Bautista started his career in Cebu where he beat Rey Compendio in a unanimous six round decision on June 12, 2003. He since won 16 of his next bouts, mostly held in Cebu or his home province of Bohol.
His first big break came in September 10, 2005, when he knocked out Felix Flores in an eighth round bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
In The World Awaits undercard, Bautista gained the #1 contendership for the WBO Super Bantamweight title when he won in a unanimous decision against Sergio Manuel Medina. Despite giving Medina a knockdown, he too suffered a knockdown from the Argentinian opponent.
His 23-bout unbeaten streak came to a glorious end as he lost to Daniel Ponce de Leon with a first round TKO in the Boxing World Cup main event at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, CA.
