(Redirected from Ridgewood Community High School)
'Ridgewood High School', or 'RHS', is a public four-year high school located in Norridge, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of 'Ridgewood Community High School District 234'.
The school serves portions of Norridge and Harwood Heights.
Ridgewood High School received national attention in the 1960s following its opening, by ''TIME Magazine'' and the ''Ladies Home Journal'' selected it as one of "America’s Top Ten High Schools" in May 1968.
In 2005, Ridgewood had an average composite ACT score of 19.9, and graduated 77.8% of its senior class. The average class size is 21.2. Ridgewood has made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act.[1]
Ridgewood competes in the Metro Suburban Conference and Illinois High School Association. Its mascot is the Rebels.
The Ridgewood High School football team has not had a single winning season since the year 2002. But in the 2006-2007 year, a new head coach entered the stage, Christopher Zack. Zack and the rest of the varsity coaching staff molded a losing pathetic group of boys to a winning skilled football team. The Ridgewood Rebels defeated a huge Conference opponent twice, Riverside-Brookfield, which is well known in Illinois for it's dominant football team. They defeated RB the first time home, winning 14-8 on September 22, 2006. One of Ridgewood's players, Michael Chrostowski, a Runningback and Strong Safety was named Comcast Sports High School Athlete of the Week for his performance in that game. He carried the ball 37 times for 185 yards, made 5 tackles, and intercepted 2 passes, the 2nd one he intercepted with only 5 seconds remaining in the game, to seal the victory. Ridgewood also took on RB at their Homecoming game, and narrowly won in a hard fought game, 14-13. The Rebels also had some narrow loses, a 15-14 loss to Fenton High School, also losing 3-0 against LaSalle Peru. Turnovers was the name of the La-Salle Peru game, but one of the game-changing plays was when, Tight End Michael Appelhans fumbles the ball on La-Salle's 4-yard line, resulting in a Ridgewood turnover, which ended up costing the Rebels the game. The Rebels ended the season 5-4, and had just missed making the IHSA playoffs that year, which was a huge disappointment for the team. But, 90% of the Varsity starters are returning, and Coach Chris Zack of Ridgewood is determined to go on to the Playoffs next year and possibly get to the Quarter-Finals, the bar as been set by the 2006 team, now we will see if the 2007 team can live up to the expectations.
