ROBERT ABRAMS
'Robert Abrams' (1938[1]- )is a politician and lawyer in New York. He served as a member of the New York State Assembly representing the Bronx in the 1970s. From 1970 to 1979, he served as the Bronx Borough President and ''ex officio'' member of the New York City Board of Estimate. He is considered a member of the reform wing of the Democratic Party.
In 1978, he was elected to the first of four terms as New York State Attorney General. In 1992, he sought election to the United States Senate. He won the Democratic Primary, defeating former Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro, Rev. Al Sharpton, and New York City Comptroller Elizabeth Holtzman. He lost the general election to Senator Al D'Amato. In 1994, he resigned the attorney generalship with a year left in his term to go into the private practice of law. He is now a partner at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan and has remained active in civic affairs in New York.
Abrams is an alumnus of Columbia College and the New York University School of Law.
