History

The school's construction ceremonially broke ground on February 1, 2005 and was built as a relief school for overcrowded Miami Springs High School, which used to the serve the area. The school was also opened to relieve a distance problem, as high school students would have to commute seven to nine miles to reach Miami Springs High School; the school was named after Ronald Reagan, a former President of the United States. The campus is located on 20 acres and contains approximately 250,000 square feet of classroom, office, and computer lab space. Outdoor facilities include football, softball, baseball and soccer fields, as well as basketball, racquetball, and tennis courts. The facilities also include an 800-seat auditorium, a 700 seat cafeteria, a state-of-the-art Media Center, and an indoor gymnasium. The school opened its doors to students on August 14, 2006.
As of the 2007-2008 school year, 12th grade students located within the boundaries of the school will not attend Reagan/Doral High School; the school will only serve current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students and as time passes all grades will eventually be assumed by the high school. Current 12th grade students will continue to attend Miami Springs High School in the meantime. Reagan/Doral's first graduating class is expected the be the class of 2009.
Reagan/Doral's current atheltic rivals are Miami Springs High School and Doral Academy Charter High School.

Cambridge Academy and Magnet Program

Reagan/Doral is an academy-based school. At the present there are three academies: the Cambridge Academy, Information and Communications Technology Academy (ICT), and the Classical Arts Academy. Ninth grade students are enrolled in a leadership course where they will define their career interests and then select one of three academies. They will choose their elective classes from that academy for the remaining three years. The Cambridge curriculum is taught in over 150 countries worldwide. Cambridge courses are demanding pre-university courses that emphasize higher order thinking skills, oral skills, problem solving, teamwork and investigative skills. Students who take and pass the Cambridge exams may be awarded university credit at various schools throughout the United States. The courses taken in a Cambridge Academy are also recognized internationally. Alongside the Cambridge Academy courses, the school will also host a Classical Arts magnet program open to all students in the county, similar to other magnet programs held at several high schools in the district.

School uniform

Reagan's students must wear school uniforms. [1]. The parent survey overwhelmingly accepted uniforms (93% in favor, 7% opposed). Students are required to wear a navy blue or green polo shirt and khaki or blue colored trousers. The shirts must have collars. Shorts, capri pants, and skirts are not permitted. All shirts must be tucked into the student's trousers as well as monogrammed with the school seal.
